Göcek sits in a large beautiful bay that offers a plethora of popular or hidden beaches   where you can submerse yourself in the clear turquoise waters of the sea to cool down after the heat of the sun beating down on golden sand.

Now it’s time to introduce some of those beaches and bays in or around Göcek.

Göcek, A Natural Port and a Yachting Paradise!

Göcek is a quiet and sheltered port thanks to its unique geography. Göcek has everything that sunseekers and sea enthusiasts could ever wish for thanks to its numerous natural bays, islands both large and small and, of course, the world-famous Turquoise Sea. Göcek has always been the perfect haven for boats and yachts of all shapes and sizes.

The bay is well known in the marina industry and has six world-class marinas. Four of türkiye's most luxurious marinas are located on the central bay of Göcek and two are in Göcek Büngüş Bay.

It’s possible to visit the unforgettable bays of Göcek by boat departing out of those marinas or the port in the original town. You can take public boat tours or rent your own boat and spend as much time as you want in any bay. Some agencies also offer Sea Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Board tours.

The Natural Bays and Islands of Göcek and its environs

Göcek Island

Göcek Island, which is the closest to Göcek centre, is a great place to chill out with its clean sea and unspoilt nature. The trees on the island come right down to the shoreline. There are facilities on the island where you can rent sunbeds and parasols and which offer refreshments including food and drink. The island can be reached by private boat and there is also a sea taxi service.

Yassica Islands

Yassıca Islands refers to a few islands of differing sizes in the bay of  Fethiye and it’s a great place to spend some time. The islands are ideal for water sports enthusiasts. They are covered with pine and olive trees. One of the islands has a small lagoon. Yassıca Island offers some opportunities for hiking too. In the summer months the locals open small stalls to sell refreshments and knick-knacks to visitors.

Bedri Rahmi Bay

The old name of this cove was Taşyaka, but it got an alternative name after the visit of the famous painter Bedri Rahmi in 1974. There is a picture of Bedri Rahmi on a rock on the island. Bedri Rahmi created a piece of art on a large stone that looks like a fish, but secretly conceals and portrays 6 animals. You can visit the island by rental boat or it is usually included on the popular 12 Islands Tour.

Cleopatra Baths Bay

At the Cleopatra Baths Bay there are, in close proximity, historical ruins with the famous sunken baths and blue and green waters. According to history, during the visit of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra to the Mediterranean shores, her close friends decided to make her this special bathhouse and give it to her as a gift. They did this because they discovered  there is a hot water source in this bay. It is said that this hot water is good for the treatment of skin diseases and it is also claimed that the legendary beauty of Cleopatra comes from here.

Tersane Island

This is the largest island among the islands of Göcek. There are historical ruins from the time of the Ottoman Empire. The island is composed of two parts: a winter harbour and a summer port. You can find more historical ruins in the winter harbour.

Boynuzbükü Bay

Boynuzbükü is a wide bay located in the west of Fethiye Bay. The sea is exceptionally clear due to its natural breakwater. It has hiking and  walking routes to explore and the bay is covered with pine and olive trees.

Yavansu (Martı) Bay

In this bay, you’ll find a wooden pier where you can moor your boat. The name of the bay comes from the quality of the water coming from the mountain. There is a silhouette of a seagull on the ground at the seaside. Due to the silhouette of this seagull, this cove is called gull.

Göbün Bay

This small and narrow cove is accessed through two high hills. The bay is covered with olive and pine trees. Often you come across century-old olive trees. At the end of the bay you can see some rock tombs and historical ruins. 

Killebükü Bay

Killebükü is a large bay between Boynuzbükü and Taşyaka. You can also see the ruins of a church  and ornamented stones in the bay. It is one of the most beautiful bays that can be seen and is a must visit on any boat trip. The wind blows warm and the sunset is spectacular.

Sıralıbük Bay

One of the most beautiful coves of Göcek, Sıralıbük Cove is another popular destination for daily tour boats. It is a magnificent bay where the fresh water source and saltwater meet. 

Merdivenli Bay

Another wonderful combination of sea and nature. Use the path from the shoreline to climb up and see the village on the hill. You can purchase local products when visiting this small village. You’ll see many natural caves around the bay.

Cennet Bay

A beautiful bay located just west of the Yassıca Islands. There is nothing like enjoying swimming in the shade of pine trees. It has very impressive nature. 

The Bays and Beaches Around Göcek

Ölüdeniz (Dead Sea)

Ölüdeniz is a protected natural lagoon that the locals call “a haven gifted by God”. It features on many promotional postcards and posters. Its beach is 3 km long. The colour combinations of different shades of blue and green make swimming and snorkelling most enjoyable. The waters of the Ölüdeniz  are warm and calm for 10 months and for this reason it is one of the most famous and regularly visited resorts in the Turkish Mediterranean.  It is world renowned for paragliding from the mountain directly behind. Ölüdeniz is 24 km away from Fethiye and separates Belcekız Beach from Kumburnu. Many guest houses, camping places, motels and restaurants are open all year round.

Katrancı Bay

Katrancı Bay is located 17 km away from Fethiye on the way to Göcek. The bay is covered with pine trees, whose dark green colours reflect in the clear blue sea. The beautiful beach invites you  to sunbathe, swim and relax. It is an ideal place for camping.

İztuzu Beach

İztuzu Beach is a 4.5 km long beach near Dalyan, in the Ortaca district of the Province of Muğla in southwestern Türkiye. The beach is a narrow spit of land, which forms a natural barrier between the freshwater delta of the Dalyan River and the Mediterranean. It is one of the main breeding grounds for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) in the Mediterranean and is therefore often referred to as "Turtle Beach". For this reason, the beach has had a protected status since 1988 and is part of the Köyceğiz-Dalyan Special Environmental Protection Area.

Sarıgerme Beach

Sarıgerme is a beach near Osmaniye Village in Ortaca district, Muğla Province, south-west Türkiye. It is a holiday destination with a beach and shops. Sarıgerme is approximately 12 km from the airport town of Dalaman with good road access after being resurfaced several years ago. This beach has pristine sand and is popular with Turkish and foreign guests alike.
